Volvo Announces Plans to Sell Trucks Powered by Dimethyl Ether in 2015

Volvo Trucks announced at a press conference in Sacramento, CA that they will begin selling Class 8, over-the-road trucks powered by dimethyl ether beginning in 2015.

Dimethyl ether, or DME, burns clean without producing any soot and can be made from a variety of sustainable domestic sources, including natural gas. When produced from biomass, DME can provide a 95% reduction in carbon dioxide as compared to diesel fuel.
