The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Barry Schoch has authorized his agency to increase the weight restrictions on about 1,000 bridges that have been found to be structurally deficient.

Schoch stated that the increased weight restrictions are due to the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s inaction on transportation funding. Reducing the weight traveling on these bridges will slow down their deterioration and preserve safety while PennDOT continues to seek funding to maintain the bridges.
